Dacey thanks fans and team-mates for End of Season awards

7th June 2017

Kristian Dacey has thanked Cardiff Blues supporters and his fellow team-mates after being voted Fans' Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season at Monday's End of Season awards.

The hooker, who is included in Wales’ summer tour squad to face Tonga and Samoa, picked up the awards following an impressive season, which saw Dacey score six tries in 22 appearances for the region.

Dacey, who will receive a suit from Nathan Palmer for his Players' Player of the Season award, also pinpointed the Judgement Day V victory over the Ospreys as his season highlight.

“It’s a massive honour to win both awards. The fans are the ones who turn up week in, week out and have played a massive part for us this year,” said Dacey.

“Obviously winning the Players’ award as well, it’s been a massive privilege taking the field alongside them this season and I’m glad they voted for me.

“We’ve had a season of up-and-downs really, but the biggest game for us was the win over Ospreys.

“We put 35 points on them by the end and especially considering what they did to us down there earlier in the season, it was a massive game for us and it’s hopefully something we can use going in to next season.

“I didn’t know I’d get a suit included as well, I’ve just found that out, that’s going to be very nice!

“I think the wife is going to be very happy with that, with a couple of weddings coming up in the summer."

Dacey started at hooker at during Wales’ 88-19 victory over RGC 1404 in a pre-tour warm-up at Parc Eirias last week.

The 3-times capped international is currently preparing to stake a claim for Wales’ number two jersey over the summer, facing competition from Ospreys' Scott Baldwin and Scarlets' Ryan Elias.

“I want to get into that matchday 23, so I’m working as hard as I can now to put my print down on that team.”
