Nick Williams is looking forward to an emotional return to the Kingspan Stadium following a "gut-wrenching" defeat to Gloucester.
The number eight is still bitterly disappointed by Cardiff Blues’ European Challenge Cup exit at the hands of the Cherry and Whites but will need no extra motivation this weekend.
For the first time since joining Wales’ Capital Region, he will return to his former Ravenhill stomping ground to face Ulster in the Guinness PRO12.
Williams said: “We were our own worst enemies (against Gloucester). We played to script for the first 50-55 minutes but then in the last 25-30 we were shambolic.
“We went into our shells, we didn’t play plan a or plan b and they obviously capitalised. The result was gut-wrenching.
“We know our top four and six chances are dashed but we want to stay strong in seventh position.
“We are going to back ourselves in every game, we have nothing to lose and sometimes those are the most dangerous sides.
“It will be a bit emotional (to go back) – we will be enemies on the pitch but brothers off it. When we cross the white line we will be gunning for each other but as soon as the ref blows the full-time whistle we will be giving each other hugs.”
Williams has fond memories of his time at Ulster and still has a lot of close friends at the Province.
Ravenhill is seen as one of the more intimidating venues in the PRO12 but Williams is looking forward to playing there once again and insists all the pressure is on the home side.
He continued: “It was a special place not just for myself but my family. We have some very fond memories there and made some good mates but like anything and everything you need to move on.
“I made such good, close friends there, I probably had half the squad my wedding and my wife was very good friends with all the partners.
“But now I’m really excited to come back if selected and hopefully getting in front of the Ravenhill crowd again.
“The expectation and crowd at Ravenhill puts more pressure on the Ulster lads, it’s a weight on the shoulders. Hopefully I can get one up on my old mates there on Saturday.”
