Lewis-Hughes to captain Premiership Select XV at The Wern

13th January 2017

Head coach Richard Hodges has made nine changes to the Cardiff Blues Premiership Select XV to face Jersey Reds at The Wern on Saturday (KO 3.00pm).

Six players are retained from the narrow loss to Ulster ‘A’ at Sardis Road in December, including flanker Shane Lewis-Hughes, who will captain the side in Merthyr.

Dane Blacker will link-up with Pontypridd partner Ben Jones at half-back, replacing Pele Cowley, while James Beal returns to the wing to replace Kyle Evans.

Meanwhile, outside-half Jarrod Evans returns to the bench following a 9-week lay-out with injury.

“The British & Irish Cup has been a fantastic opportunity for the region’s most promising players to gain valuable experience and face tough opposition.

“We’ve been happy with elements of performances so far, and despite coming away with narrow losses, we want to finish the campaign on a high point.

“We are looking forward to playing up at The Wern. Merthyr have really bought into the fixture, and we hope the local support can give us a boost on the day."
