Gethin Jenkins captained Wales to a 24-20 victory over Argentina as Sam Warburton made his return to international action.
Wales had rung the changes for the clash with Los Pumas on Saturday, with Warburton making his comeback but fellow Cardiff Blue Jenkins holding onto the captaincy as he became the world’s most capped front-row forward.
Scarlets wing Liam Williams dotted down for the opening try of the game, after good work by outside half Dan Biggar, but a Martin Landajo grubber set up Juan Martin Hernandez to reply immediately.
A fine kick behind the defence by unlikely source, Jenkins, put Wales in a promising position, and Gareth Davies pounced to add a second for his side.
Landajo darted over to grab a second try for Argentina, but 14 points from the boot of Leigh Halfpenny was enough to secure the victory for Wales.
Rey Lee-Lo was Samoa’s only try scorer on Saturday as they were on the end of a 52-8 thumping by France.
Virimi Vakatawa grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick of tries, with Yoann Huget, Charles Ollivon and Gael Fickou also touching down on Les Bleus way to over half a ceuntry of points.
Meanwhile, Blaine Scully was named on the wing for USA Eagles’ 23-10 defeat to Romania at Bucharest.
Will Holder grabbed USA’s only try of the match, as the Oaks racked up 15 points within the first 16 minutes.
