Williams determined to build on success

9th September 2016

After bagging his first competitive try for Cardiff Blues, Tomos Williams is determined to make the most of every further opportunity.

The 21-year-old scrum-half was one of the starring performers in last week’s bonus-point win over Edinburgh at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

He holds onto his starting spot for tonight’s Guinness PRO12 clash with Munster at Irish Independent Park and hopes to tighten his grip on the number nine jersey.

Williams said: “It was nice to get a try and hopefully I can capitalise in my opportunities. It’s great to have that competition with Lloyd (Williams), Lewis (Jones) and Tavis (Knoyle) they are all good players and that competition ensures we improve as players.

“Being injured in the first game of last season and spending the first few months on the side-lines was tough but I worked hard to get back and it was good to have a few games at the end of the season.

“To get a bonus-point win is all you can ask for at the beginning of this season, it was a really good start and a good performance. Now I’m hoping for some more starts and to keep playing well.”

A trip to Cork to face Munster is undoubtedly a tougher proposition than hosting Edinburgh at home and Williams is acutely aware of the challenge.

But he is confident in his side’s ability and insists the Blues must target a top six finish in the Guinness PRO12.

Williams added: “Munster will be a big test, they are renowned for being very tough over there in Ireland but if we perform like we did against Edinburgh and how we know we can it will be a good game.

“As a team we have to aim for the top six and if we continue to perform like we did against Edinburgh it is definitely achievable.”
