Wilson praises Anscombe's star performance

18th April 2016

Danny Wilson has lauded Gareth Anscombe following his man of the match performance in Sunday's derby victory over Newport Gwent Dragons.

The fly-half produced another fine performance as Cardiff Blues made it four consecutive victories in the Guinness PRO12.

He created a try for Rey Lee-Lo with a delicate chip over the Dragons rush defence and rounded off affairs at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park with a score of his own at the death.

Wilson said: “He’s a great professional. He has a great understanding of the game and mixes his ability to put the ball through his hands, play with shape and the kicking game with his ability to beat people one on one.

“He makes sure defences stay honest and if they don’t he will find gaps and score or make breaks which he did a couple of times today.”

The victory sees the Blues go within one point of sixth spot which would secure qualification for the top tier European Champions Cup.

Wilson’s men are next in action against the Ospreys on Judgement Day at the Principality Stadium before finishing the season against Edinburgh.
