Williams: We are not out of it yet

17th January 2016

Skipper Lloyd Williams insisted Cardiff Blues would go all out to finish the European campaign in style on home soil - and vowed 'it's not over yet'.

Williams was a second half try scorer as Cardiff Blues battled back from 28-0 down to narrowly lose out 34-26 at Twickenham Stoop.

That result means Cardiff Blues can still qualify when they face Rugby Calvisano at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night – but will need other results to fall for them.

“It’s not over yet and we are hoping for a strong performance next week and that we can get in,” said Williams.

“With Calvisano next week, we were confident that if we got a result next Friday we would be through.

“We will look back at this campaign and learn from it. We have lost a few points along the way and losing out in Montpellier was a big blow for us, losing with the last play of the game.”

Reflecting on the game of two halves in London, Williams added: “We didn’t start the way we had intended to and it was just frustrating because we had too much to bring back at the end.

“Credit to the players, we all dug in deep and have shown over the last month that if we are in the game at half-time we have got a definite shot of winning.

“We lost possession too easily in the first half. We need to play with the right intent from the start and that will take time.

“In attack we were brilliant but in defence we didn’t produce what we needed. We let their ball carriers get over the gain line. We will learn from it.”
