Wilson excited to see TJ make his return

28th October 2015

Head Coach Danny Wilson has spoken about his excitement now wing ace Tom James is set to return - and revealed Rey Lee-Lo and Blaine Scully could yet feature against Zebre in the Guinness PRO12 this weekend.

Wales international James – the leading try scorer in the region’s history - has returned for a second spell at Cardiff Blues and marked his comeback with a superb solo finish on the opening day of the season against the Italians.

James has missed league action ever since with a foot injury, but is now back to full fitness and ready to be unleashed overseas on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s great news that Tom is pushing for a recall this weekend. I’m desperately excited to see him back on the field for us,” said Wilson.

“In his first performance for us, and in just half a game against Zebre, he showed all the qualities he has as a player and was terrific.

“There has already been an impact in training with him back so we are really hoping the weekend goes well for him and it will be great to see him back in our shirt.”

Lee-Lo and Sully have also been in training this week and Wilson will consider both for selection.

“Blaine, Rey and also Lloyd Williams all returned for us this week and are in contention to play after World Cup duty,” said Wilson.

“Unfortunately Cam (Dolan) who had his first involvement last week has pulled a hamstring and so will miss this game.

“From their World Cup performances and previous displays, I think Rey and Blaine have both shown they are solid professionals,” he added.

“Rey’s last game of the World Cup was against Scotland and I thought he was just superb. He made a real impact in terms of attacking flair and he has got that collision in him in defence.

“We have only had him for a handful of training sessions, as he has come back from New Zealand after getting his family, but he has got good communication skills that will boost our back line.

“Blaine is a real leader and athlete in terms of his physical prowess. He is very brave and good under the high ball, he can play wing or full back.

“Both will add to our environment and our on field performance. It will take them time to settle in, to the way we play and the structures we play to, but with the calibre of both they will settle down and in weeks to come will produce.”
