USA Coach backs duo to shine at Blues

29th July 2015

USA Head Coach Mike Tolkin has backed summer signings Blaine Scully and Cam Dolan to be big hits at Cardiff Blues - as the star duo countdown to the Rugby World Cup.

Wing Scully, who can also operate at full back, and forward Dolan, comfortable in the second or back row, are currently both part of the USA plans for the showpiece finals later this year.

Both players started for the Eagles against Samoa in Round 1 of the current Pacific Nations Cup and were in action again last weekend as USA defeated Japan.

And USA Coach Tolkin believes both can impress at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park after spells playing in the English Premiership.

Tolkin said: “We are pleased that Cam and Blaine will be joining Cardiff Blues. It will be a great benefit to the Eagles to have our players in full-time high end environments.

“I believe that Cardiff Blues will also benefit from having these two exceptional international athletes in its programme.

“Blaine and Cam are both capable of making immediate impacts on the field, and their overall agility and aerial skills fit right into the modern game.

“Furthermore, they will most definitely add to a positive team culture at Cardiff as they have done with the Eagles over the past four years.”

Scully and Dolan are today (Wednesday) in action for USA against Tonga in Toronto.

Preparations for the Rugby World Cup then continue with the finals of the Pacific Nations Cup before warm-up games against Canada, Harlequins and Australia.

The Eagles are in a Rugby World Cup Pool B alongside South Africa, Samoa, Scotland and Japan and Billy Millard, General Manager of Rugby at Cardiff Blues, admits it is a busy schedule for the duo who will need to be managed on arrival in Wales later in the year.

“Blaine and Cam have a busy period for USA in the Pacific Island Cup, then into RWC warm up games then the RWC itself,” he said. “Both players are leaders within the team and will have much responsibility on and off the field.

“We look forward to them joining us and we will need to work smartly to integrate and recover them.

“As I have said before, they are both top quality men and will add major value to our group both on and off the field.”
