Coach pleased with Cuthy appetite in victory

9th March 2015

Defence Coach Dale McIntosh praised the 'huge appetite for the game' that wing Alex Cuthbert displayed in the late, late Guinness PRO12 victory over Connacht Rugby.

Cuthbert was back in the starting line-up at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park after being released by Wales and saw a second half try disallowed on his return.

The wing was a menace for Connacht to contend with in the second half in particular, with one scything run from halfway almost resulting in a superb solo score.

And his display earned plaudits from McIntosh who was pleased to seeing him firing.

“The more Alex has the ball in his hand the more potent you are as an attack,” he said.

“There are work-ons, like any player, but he is a big powerful lad, he has pace to burn and he knows how to break down defences and defensive lines.

“He has a huge appetite for the game,” he added. “People think he has come back to us from Wales with his bottom lip on the ground but that is definitely not the case.

“Johnsey (Paul John) asked him about his state of mind and he wanted to play, he wanted to get on that field as soon as possible. He played some good rugby against Connacht so good on him.”
