Meehan and Lloyd at double for South

26th February 2015

Thomas Meehan and Owen Lloyd grabbed try doubles as Cardiff Blues South Under-16s took bragging rights as they defeated Cardiff Blues North Under-16s in an entertaining clash at BT sport Cardiff Arms Park on Wednesday evening.

Blues South overcame losing starting fly half Cai Evans to injury in the opening minutes as they stormed to a 17-0 half-time lead in heavy rain.

Tighthead prop Elliot Swindlehurst got the South off to a flying start with a fourth minute try after a powerful driving lineout.

Back row Owen Lloyd then grabbed his brace of tries, the second converted by Ben Thomas, as the South took control by the break.

It got even better scored his first four minutes after the restart as Meehan crossed before full back Jonathan Davies finished a fine sweeping move.

Cardiff Blues North deserved praise for the manner in which they battled until the end and they were rewarded when fly half Ben Jones touched down.

However, South had the final say as Meehan scored in the final seconds and captain Tom Ireland-Life converted for a 36-5 final score.
