Navidi ready for massive Irish return clash

7th December 2014

Man-of-the-match Josh Navidi was delighted to help Cardiff Blues secure a crucial 24-14 win over London Irish in the European Rugby Challenge Cup - but warned there was still plenty of work to do before the region could dream of the last eight.

Back row dynamo Navidi was an inspirational force for Blues as they remained unbeaten in Europe this season and moved top of Pool 1 by four points with a crucial win at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

However, with the return clash against the Exiles next up on Saturday at the Madejski Stadium, Navidi insisted it was still all to play for and Blues had to perform again.

“It was a massive win for us and also the fans that come every week and want to see us win,” he said. “It’s great to see us get the right results and now we want to progress further in this cup.

“It was a pretty scrappy game at times, especially first half, but it opened up in the second and when they had a man in the sin bin we had to make it count.

“It was nice to see Lloyd (Williams) go over and build up a gap so we could settle down a little bit because it was a bit jittery at time to time.

“We are not in the knockout stages yet – nothing is certain yet,” he added.

“We are top of the table and you can’t ask for any more than that. But next week is a big one for us and hopefully we can go there and do a job.

“This is only the first part and the second part is yet to come; we want to get to the quarter-finals.

“It was massive to not give them a losing bonus point. It could make a big difference. Now we want to go there and get the win and keep the unbeaten record going.”
