Povey stunner as Blues U18s claim win

13th November 2014

Full back Curtis Povey scored a superb solo try as Cardiff Blues Under-18s opened the new WRU Regional Age Grade competition in emphatic fashion as they recorded a 29-13 win over Newport Gwent Dragons ay Ystrad Mynach on Wednesday.

Blues, captained by second row Callum Haggett, took control of the game in the opening quarter, with two early penalties from Callum Hall before the opening try from hooker Gerwyn Coleman on 13 minutes.

Hall continued to send Blues clear, with sweetly struck drop goal on 22 minutes making it 19-0 to the visitors.

Povey’s brilliant length of the field try was converted just before the break as Blues led with a commanding 26-3 at half-time.

Dragons scored the opening try of the second half, with wing George Casson going over in the corner before a further score from Connor Edwards on 50 minutes cut the lead to 24-13.

But Blues were not to be denied and a further kick from fly half Hall and a scoreless final 30 minutes saw the visitors claim the points.

Blues Under-18s are back in action next Wednesday when they travel to face Ospreys before an away game to RGC on Sunday.
