Blues pay tribute to Ian 'Robbo' Robinson

25th July 2014

Cardiff Blues was today saddened to hear the news that Cardiff RFC legend and former Wales international Ian 'Robbo' Robinson has passed away.

Ian Robinson only ever played club rugby for Cardiff over a 16-year spell and was a firm favourite for the Blue & Blacks. He played 384 games for Cardiff and 178 games for the Athletic between 1964 and 1980.

He also gained two Welsh caps in 1974, against France and England, and at 6ft 6in was the tallest lock in his day to wear the red jersey. He also represented the Barbarians and Crawshays XV.

One of the hardest men on the field, off the field he was a gentleman and was happy to talk rugby to anyone he met. In recent years he had been a very active and valued member of the Cardiff Rugby committee.

Robbo will be sadly missed and our thoughts go out to his family at this sad time.
