After only three minutes of play some excellent work at the lineout from Rumney hooker Sam Sweetingham saw defence turn to attack. The move ended with a perfect pass from Cowbridge outside half Rhys Griffin to put Barry winger Aaran Reid in at the corner for an unconverted try.

The middle part of the first half then saw very determined play from both sides, though handling errors seemed the order of the day. However the home side got the upper hand and similar tries from short penalties for Cowbridge prop Gus McPherson and Rhiwbina second row David Gooding, the latter converted by St Peters wing Jack Huntley, took the score to 17-0.

In the final minutes of the first half St Peters scrum half Will Baird made a wonderful 50m brake, though some excellent cover defence from the visitors saw him tackled into touch just short of the try line. More great work by the Cardiff & Vale forwards at the resulting lineout saw Sam Sweetingham pinch his second try and the half finish with the score at 22-0 to the home side.

As in the previous meeting of these teams, the Heart of Wales side produced an admirable fight back in the second half. However, there is no answer to raw pace and another try from Pentyrch centre Gabriel Davies showed that he has it in abundance. Some excellent forward play from Cardiff & Vale saw the ball set up just in the opponents half before it was quickly moved out to the wing for Davies to sprint in. Rhiwbina centre Jacob Chillcot converted.

As the second half progressed, a purple patch of excellent handling and interplay from the Cardiff & Vale forwards again set up good field position. A storming run from Gus McPherson then set up a hat-trick try for Man of the Match Sam Sweetingham to go with his four strikes against the head.

With just three minutes left on the clock the Heart of Wales side showed their resilient nature by storming the home defence to claim a very good and well-deserved try. The final whistle saw the score at 34-5 and the end of another great advert for rugby at this age group.
