The Redrow Homes Blues Cup enables youngsters from throughout the region to compete against each other, from the under 12s to the under 14s age groups and there is sure to be some hotly contested matches.

Proof of its ever-growing profile within the region is highlighted by the vast number of clubs from across the regions wanting to take part in the competition year on year. Last year saw over 350 spectators at the Cardiff Arms Park for the spectacular finale, which was a great advert for the community game. The finals were a culmination of well over 2000 players and 40 clubs going head to head since the start of the 2011/12 season. Encouragingly, each year new teams come through to the finals. Last year saw Abercynon RFC, make an appearance in the U12 final while Mountain Ash RFC took their place in the U13 final.

Monday 1st October saw the draw for the first round of the Redrow Homes Blues Cup 2012/13 take place. Special guests Stuart Rowlands and Debby Pavitt from Redrow Homes joined Cardiff Blues Dan Fish and Taufa'ao Filise to draw the Under 14s fixtures.

Speaking about the sponsorship, Redrow's South Wales Managing Director, Stuart Rowlands said "It's a real pleasure to strengthen our association with Cardiff Blues by sponsoring the Blues Cup this year."

Cardiff Blues Player Development Co-ordinator, Gary Knowles added,

"It is great to see young players reach the final at Cardiff Arms Park, it is such an achievement and hopefully will be the first of many times they get to play on the famous pitch."

"We have been joined at the draw by Dan Fish, who is a great ambassador for the development work within the region. Dan has come through the Cardiff Blues regional development scheme and is now playing professionally for the Blues."

"There is huge potential for the relationship between the two organisations to develop and expand over time and we are all looking forward to working closely with Redrow."
