It has been another busy season for Nadine Griffiths, Development Officer for Girls in the Blues region, but particularly so in the coming fortnight.
Although a number of clubs throughout the Blues region have their own womens teams, representative age grade rugby in Wales is organised along different lines for girls than boys, with the country being divided into three teams East, North and West. These teams compete at Under-13, Under-16 and Under-19 level in a round robin system of fixtures against each other.
As well as working with these teams a regular feature of Nadines work in promoting girls rugby are rugby sessions in schools across Cardiff.
Nadine said,
Although my remit as development officer is quite specific, I am involved with many different teams so the various roles keep me busy and certainly give me plenty to get my teeth stuck in to.
I have recently visited and coached girls at Whitchurch, Llanishen, Llanrumney, St Johns, Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf, Ysgol Gyfun Plasmawr, Radyr and Fitzalan High Schools.
The recent National Rugby 7s event at Llanrumney proved to be a real success with about 200 girls playing and highlighting the appetite for rugby amongst young players that is not always recognized.
This Friday Nadine brings four school tag U13 female teams from Cardiff & Vale to the Arms Park to perform a TAG rugby demonstration at half time during the crucial Celtic League match between the Blues and Borders. We wish them all the best for their chance in the limelight on the famous turf.
Despite such a hectic schedule Nadines appetite is not lost either, she said,
