Director of rugby David Young said, "We are obviously relieved as well as pleased to still have another route into Europe next season. But the job is not yet done. Whoever we play will be a tough proposition in their own country. If it turns out to be Calvisano we will be playing a side that had 14 capped players registered for this season's Heineken Cup and they will be as keen as we are to play in it again next year."
Calvisano's squad includes international props Leandro Castrogiovanni and Salvatore Pertugini and influential New Zealand born scrum-half Paul Griffen. The Blues' three Lions, Martyn Williams, Gethin Jenkins and Tom Shanklin will be unavailable for the match while the Wales squad to tour North America sets out earlier in the same week.
Young said that clarification will be sought with the national team management about availability of players. He is also reviewing a playing programme during the next six weeks. Some players may be able to keep match fit playing club rugby in the Premier Division while the arranging of friendly matches is also a possibility.
