"The development officers have been continuing their good work with the children throughout the summer season and we have also been fortunate to help charity causes upon occasion."
Two recent highlights include a charity cricket match to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the Gareth Edwards Annual Sevens tournament to benefit Cardiff Blind Institute.
Cardiff HSOB hosted the Sevens tournament, with four Capital Rugby schools invited to exhibit their TAG rugby skills before the final was played. Year 5 pupils from Tongwynlais, Bryn Deri, Hawthorn and Ysgol Melin Gruffydd schools all deserve huge credit for their performance. These schools have been part of the Capital Rugby scheme since inception and all the pupils have clearly benefited from receiving the experienced coaching from the development officers.
"It certainly made the pupils day playing here today and meeting Gareth Edwards will probably complete their year. They all did so well today, in fact we have been asked to invite eight schools to play next year" said John.
Penarth Cricket Club entertained a select Rugby XI, including young Blues talents, in a 20 over cricket match sponsored by David James Solicitors.
Following impeccable fielding, with a special mention to Leon Andrews who held 3 superb catches, the Rugby XI were set a target of 101. After a slow start the Rugby XI began to score at will with Jamie Robinson 10, Colin Latity 20, Chris Leader 15 and Peter Goodfellow 16 providing the runs for a great win with 3 overs to spare.
A raffle and auction took place after this tremendous game which raised almost one thousand pounds for Cystic Fibrosis.
