Red Dragon FM winner writes exclusively for the Blues!

30th November 2004

12 year old Lewis Rowden from Ystrad Mynach was the lucky winner of the Red Dragon Junior Press Packer competition and got the chance to write a match report for the Blues v Scarlets game in November.

He took his seat amongst some of Wales’ most respected journalists to compose a match report exclusively for Cardiff Blues.

The first half was more a story of kicks with Gareth Bowen having the first chance at goal after the Scarlets were awarded a penalty which he kicked making the score 3-0.

Lee Thomas then missed a Blues Penalty from just inside his own half, but soon got the blues on the score board with a second penalty.

The Scarlets were the first to score a try when Scott Quinnell charged a Nick Macleod kick resulting in a lineout, good ball from the lineout and good running from Salesi Finau created an opportunity for Barry Davies to cross over, which Gareth Bowen converted.

The Blues then responded with two penalties from Lee Thomas to bring them back into the game. The Scarlets also lost Quinnell to the sin bin just before half time.

The second half saw Quinnell back in the game but the Scarlets were soon back to 14 men when Ian Boobyer was sin Binned for punching.
While the Scarlets were one man down the Blues took their chance with Dean Dewdney scoring out wide for their first try.

A long period of injury time was played due Salesi Finau having to be stretched from the field, but the Blues hung on to win 14 – 10.
