Director of coaching David Young outlined his hopes for the new season, reiterating his belief that the Celtic League will be even more competitive this season than last.
"The world moves on and the competition gets tougher," he said, "but we have recruited well and everyone is gelling together in a very positive frame of mind."
Joining the players who turned out against Worcester last Friday were Wales' summer tour representatives Rhys Williams, Deiniol Jones, Gethin Jenkins, Nick Robinson and Tom Shanklin. There were no further injuries to report though Young gave an update on the injury sustained last week by Nathan Budgett. He said,
"Nathan's injury last week was most unfortunate as he has worked incredibly hard to reach full fitness. The scan on his shoulder and neck suggests that he will be sidelined for weeks rather than months. The worst case scenario seems to suggest four to six weeks before he can play again."
Respondng to questions about the availability of the summer tour players for the opening weeks of the new season, Young said,
"Whatever is agreed between the national team management and the four regions regarding the resting of players I am happy to comply with. However that is on the basis of all four regions sticking to what is agreed. So the priority is to clarify what that policy will be."
