Cardiff Blues 18s started their season with a disappointing 38 points to 10 loss against a well drilled, physical Leicester Tigers team.
The Blues started the game off well with scrum half Luke O'Brian linking up positively with the backline. Pressure eventually told with the Blues being awarded a penalty in which outside half Sam Withers converting giving the Blues a 3 point lead. Leicester clawed their way back into the game and were soon level with a penalty nicely struck by Rory Lynne. Blues soon regained the lead with the first try of the day being scored after Lloyd Chalk picked up a loose ball and broke the Tigers defensive line eventually linking up with Luke O'Brian who crossed the line. Sam Withers converting. Leicester Tigers finished the half the strongest with a try scored by Joe Kayne, converted by Rory Lynne.

The second half was dominated by the Tigers who used their physicality to cross the Blues line with 4 converted tries. Tries were scored by Harrison Lee Eveton x 2, Justice Durhoo and Jamal Ford, two converted by Rory Lynne and two by Bryant. A disappointing start to the season for the young Blues side but a lot of positives can be taken from the game.
The Blues pre-season schedule continues next Wednesday with a friendly fixture against a Beddau XV.

In a game with no conversions or penalty kicks at goal The North continued on from the good work achieved in last weeks Development game with a 4 try first half display against a spirited and committed Tigers outfit.
Left wing Cody Baker opened the scoring after 3 minutes and this was followed 5 minutes later by a try from open side flanker Owen Young following good support play by the forwards. Following a powerful run by the Tigers centre a try was scored wide out for the hosts by James Atherton.
However normal service was resumed when Captain Dillon Lewis forced his way over following a series of short pick and drives. The half ended with fly half Corey Shephard used his silky running skills to score bringing the half to an end.

Following a raft of changes at the break the Blues started slowly and the flow wasn't helped when no 8 Morgan John was yellow carded. The North coped well with the 14 man handicap however, scoring after 43 minutes through Hooker Scott Pickering. The Tigers spirited resistance was finally broken as the forwards got on top with the reintroduction of Josh Lloyd following the yellow card the north completed a 4 try burst with tries from Harri Millard"50", Luke Raynes"55" Morgan Raison "60" with the scoring completed on 65minutes by wing Thomas Davies. The Blues north squad then made the long trip home pleased with the day's efforts but with feet very much on the ground regarding the tougher Regional season ahead.

The first 25 mins was the story of the Blues out scoring the Tigers by 3 tries to nil, the pace and skill of the Blues showing up well against the size and power of the Tigers. Individual tries from outstanding outside half Callum Sheedy x2 and number 8 Shane Young.
2nd 25mins Leicester Tigers 5 Cardiff Blues 25
An early score from the Tigers number 8 allowed the Blues to dominate the restart from the resulting kick off. The Blues then went on to dominate the contact area creating space for the outside backs allowing tries for wing Richard Singer and center Charlie Hall.
3rd 25mins Leicester Tigers 10 Cardiff Blues 35
The final 3rd saw a strong impact from the players off the bench maintaining the same intensity and finishing off the hard work from the first two 25 minutes. The final 3rd saw tries from center Matthew Edwards and scrum half Owain Lord. The Leicester Tigers getting a consolation score from their right wing.
Speaking after the match Head Coach Richard Hodges said, "This was a very pleasing and impressive start, Leicester is a tough place to come to for any side but we are all fully aware the serious business starts next Wednesday at home to the Newport Gwent Dragons in the Regional Age Grade Championship."
