The prize is given to deserving volunteers for their work with clubs and schools across the Blues region. Alex, who has the degenerative condition Ataxia Telangiectasia, was nominated following the inspirational talks he has given to primary school pupils in the Vale of Glamorgan about his love of rugby.
As an eight-year-old, Alex played one season for Beddau RFC on the wing, just like his hero Shane Williams, before his condition prevented him from taking to the field any more.
The Vale Council's rugby development officer Matt Silva arranged Alex' visits to local schools after being touched by the teenager's passion for the game. Matt said: "The way that Alex gets on with his life in spite of his condition is an absolute inspiration. The presentations that he has given to children in the Vale have taught them about rugby and his enthusiasm for the sport is sure to have rubbed off on them. It is great that people in the community around the Blues region can be recognised by EADS' excellent award, and Alex is a very deserving winner. It was also nice for his father and brother, who are both avid Blues supporters, to have a night out with Alex and be spoiled a bit."
As part of his prize, Alex' family were treated with luxury seats for the match, while at half time Alex took to the field to be presented with a signed rugby ball from Blues stars Dafydd James and Dai Flanagan.
Alex said: "The evening was fantastic and the Blues made me feel special from the minute I arrived. The best part of the evening was meeting the players at half time and after the game. I would like to say a big thank you to Matt Silva for putting me up for the award and EADS and the Blues for giving me a great evening."
Alex' proud father Stephen added: "It was great to see Alex look so grown up and have a great time. Rugby is Alex's life, with supporting both Beddau RFC and the Blues key to that. I must add to Alex's comments and say a big thank you to the Blues for making it a great evening."
