After a forced lay off of a few weeks due to the Christmas break and snow bound frozen pitches combined with Mr. Mottram and Mr.Golding's attending Norway's winter warfare school, learning how to nullify the enemy with a snowball from 10 metres.

The Vale team started extremely well with Rhydian Lewis, Haaris Kahn and Rhys Delucia combining well to feed Bevan Howell who used his trademark "show and go" skills to beat the defence from 30 metres out to score the team's first try.

Newportschools restarted well and pressurized the Vale team only to find them full of running again with forwards Haaris Kahn, Finlay Davies and Jake Griffiths tackling with determination and stealing the ball on the deck to feed the Vale backs once more and for Bevan and Joseff Williams to put Harrison Ashby in space on the left wing. Ashby backed his own pace to round the Newport defenders and score near the posts, with Jake Griffiths kicking the conversion, making the score 12 nil to the home team.

Newporthit back from a scrum, using their burly centre who took some stopping every time he had the ball in hand, combining well with his scrum half and front row. Handling let them down and from the resulting scrum the Vale backs handled well with Bevan coming on to the ball at speed from the blindside, linking with captain Rhys Durlucia, Jack Lee and Cameron Roy to then release the backs once more by the speedy service of Ioan Williams to work the ball to left wing Ashby once again, following excellent timed passes by Rhydian Lewis and Joseff Williams especially. Ashby was put in space but still had work hard to do to outpace the Newport cover to make sure of the score. He did admirably to score his 2^nd of the game. Vale 17 points, Newport nil.

Newportput pressure on from the restart and tackled the Vale well in their own half, causing them to make mistakes. Rhys Bradshaw ran hard out of defence, supported by Howell, Sam Corkhill and Rhys Jones, looking for work on his wing. A stray pass while trying to break out of defence was intercepted by the Newport centre who fed his fellow wing to run well and score near the posts. Try was converted, Vale 17, Newport 7 points, game on!

This was the last score of the first half and with the Newport team managing the last score of the first period they started the second half far more buoyant than their hosts. Looking to cause havoc in defence whenever possible, the Vale forwards knocked on and from the scrum the Newport numbers 10 and 12 combined well to make great yards into Vale territory but luckily knocked on.

A series of penalties awarded to Newport made the Vale defence work hard, led by Oliver Rowbottom, Jack Roberts and Rhodri Hopkins. They had to be alert to the quick thinking Newport scrum half who had come to life in the second half. Determined tackling and competition in the loose led to Newport losing possession after a forward pass.

Again, Vale were penalised for offside and hands in the ruck for Newport to go wide and feed their centre then right wing to score in far corner, while the Vale were left bemused at what they had done wrong. Vale 17, Newport 12 points.

The remainder of the match Newport pressed hard for another score to try to level the match but the Vale defence were up to the task, showing superb spirit in defence to upset the rampaging Newport front 5 forwards, with Ioan Williams rallying his troops to keep them out. Every loose ball was competed for, shown by Jack Roberts pouncing on loose lineout possession so the Newport backs could not attack again and a number of try saving tackles were made by Joseff Williams, Harrison Ashby and Jack Lee. A series phases was defended well by the Vale to stop any further score by the visitors to ensure a well earned victory and "double" over their opponents.

Final score - Vale of Glam Schools 17 - Newport Schools 12.
