The First Minister was taken on a tour of the stadium by Peter Ridsdale, Chairman of Cardiff City Football Club and Peter Thomas, Chairman and Robert Norster, Chief Executive of Cardiff Blues.
The First Minister said: "I have been very impressed with what I have seen during my visit today. The new Cardiff City Stadium will be a fitting venue for both the capital city's sporting sides as they begin their campaigns for the new 2009/2010 season.
"Over the next few weeks, both teams are facing crucial games in their bid to end this season on a high note. Cardiff Blues have a crucial Heineken Cup match this weekend as well as the final of the EDF Energy Cup against Gloucester at Twickenham in a few weeks time and with just seven games remaining, Cardiff City is in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League. Good luck to both teams as they look to bring sporting success to the capital city and Wales, ahead of their move to their new home."
