The Vale forwards where winning good ball and from a ruck on the 22 Sean Boffy picked up and drove forward passing to Thomas Jones who stepped inside two men before setting up a ruck, the ball was passed along line to James Holder who raced in to score. Try converted by Dafydd Smith (7-0 Vale).
The Vale forwards continued to dominate giving the backs a good platform to attack from but the Maesteg boys tackled well. The pressure was bound to tell and from a ruck on the 10 meter line Daniel Bunney picked up and with the help of his forwards crashed over for an unconverted try to finish the half with the Vale leading 12 - 0.
Maesteg started the second half well and attacked at every opportunity but good tackling from the Vale boys kept them at bay. The Vale forwards who had been asleep for a time now started to win good ball again and pushed into the Maesteg half. From a lineout, the Vale where awarded a scrum and Joe Short just onto the field fancied his luck as a scrum half. Putting the ball in he picked up at the back and drove for the line but was unable to ground the ball.
From the resulting scrum the ball was passed along the line but the Vale where stopped 5 meters out, who should appear but Joe Short who picked up and was not to be denied this time as he crashed through to score. Try converted by Dafydd Smith ( 19 - 0 Vale).
The rest of the half was dominated by defence with both sets of players tackling well and at the final whistle the Vale had won by 19 - 0.
