A group of friends from Cardiff embarked on a challenge of a lifetime, by climbing the three highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland.
The team of eight, organised by intrepid charity fundraiser Rhys Jenkins, took on the five-day challenge in early May. Many have taken the challenge before; however the challengers took it up a notch by doing a non-stop seven man relay in between the mountains
Rhys said: “I have done many stamina related fundraising challenges before but this one was a real test of everyone’s fitness. We chose to raise money for two fantastic charities, Sparks the children’s charity and Tree of Hope.
“This is due to the bravery of a little boy I know called Luca who was struck down by meningococcal septicaemia and lost his limbs. We are hoping to make a positive difference through our target of £1000.”
Laura Crouch, regional fundraiser at Sparks, comments: “This was an incredible challenge which Rhys and his friends have completed for Sparks. Sadly, in the UK, 1 in 30 babies are born with a medical condition which may affect them for life. Our goal is for every child to be born healthy and stay healthy and the wonderful funds raised by the team will help us to continue our pioneering medical research and enable us to touch the lives of those children who need our help”.
Jeremy Marris, Chief Executive of Tree of Hope, says “We are delighted that this brilliant group of men took on such a fantastic challenge to raise money for us. Our charity offers hope to the families of sick children in the UK who need specialist medical surgery, treatment, therapy and equipment and we rely on sponsorship and donations such as this, in order to free them from suffering, giving a better quality to their young lives.”
