Karen Collins from Abertillery is due to marry her fiancée Phil Heaven ac the iconic venue on Saturday the 10th of August. The couple got engaged in September 2012 having been together for nine years.

At a special rehearsal of the day Karen and Phil were joined by newly selected British and Irish Lions, Jamie Roberts, Alex Cuthbert, Leigh Halfpenny and Sam Warburton.

Speaking at the Arms Park Karen said,

“My partner Phil is a massive Blues fan so we came along to the Wedding Fayre to get some ideas and we both had agreed previously that it would be great if you could get married at the Arms Park.

“As we walked around the Wedding Fayre, Phil was getting more and more excited at the thought of getting married here but we already had a venue booked we decided to leave it to fate.

“However, we put our names in the hat for the competition to win the free wedding and the following Monday I had a phone call to say that we had won, so it was all change from then!

“I called Phil straight away and he didn’t believe me! He was just so excited about it.

“We had already booked a venue for the 28th of September but we had to change the venue and brought the wedding forward to the 10th August. We also had to re-plan the honeymoon.

Karen, who works for Watkins Davies insurance, is familiar with the venue.

“I work for Roger Watkins, from Watkins Davies Insurance and they have a hospitality box here for the Blues matches.

“We often come down with them to watch from the box and think it’s a great venue.

“All our friends and family are really excited but it has caused a lot of banter because my brother in law is a huge Ospreys fan and Phil’s brother is a Dragons fan.

“Phil hasn’t stopped smiling. He has been driving me crazy, he has been running up and down the stairs with excitement, he is like a kid at Christmas!

“You really couldn’t have picked a better person to have their wedding at the Arms Park. He even has a Cardiff Blues tattoo.

Fiancee Phil Heaven who is originally from Newport is equally excited about the big day.

“I have been a Cardiff supporter since 1984 when we beat Australia.

“My Dad brought me down to watch the match and ever since then I have been a huge fan.

“We had most of the wedding sorted when we found out that the Arms Park was able to hold weddings.

“We thought about changing the venue but just attend the Wedding Fayre for ideas really.

“When we won the wedding it was a dream come true.

“My friends and family are thrilled to bits, they can’t wait!

“Unfortunately they are not all Blues fans, we have some Ospreys supporters and some Dragons fans but luckily the best man is a Blues fan as well so it should be a cracking day.”
