The tournament was held for Special Schools and Brecon Cluster Schools. This was the first time that Special Schools and mainstream schools have participated and competed under the same rules and conditions.

Ysgol Penmaes and the Cardiff Blues got together a number of months ago and the dream of holding a tournament at Ysgol Penmaes became a reality, with the help of Liam Scott and Carl Scales.

The day consisted of a skills session with students from Coleg Powys and Christ College leading the coaching, which was a great success with all pupils and staff taking part enjoying both the camaraderie and competition. With over one hundred pupils attending, the spirit of the day was clear to be seen on everyone's faces.

After lunch, the pupils took part in the Tag Rugby Tournament playing a number of games in two groups, refereed by Coleg Powys and Christ College students. Competition was high, but right from the start of the day it was visible that everyone got into the spirit of fair play and friendship making. The Special Schools and the mainstream pupils integrating with each other was something special and really summed up the whole ethos of the day.

Ian Elliot, Headteacher commented; "There was far more to the day than merely a game of rugby. I was very encouraged to see pupils and staff from various schools working together in true team spirit. My personal thanks go to all those who made the day possible and we look forward to next years' tournament".

In the end it was Llanfaes 'A' and Sennybridge who triumphed to get into the inaugural final, but there was only to be one winner and it was congratulations to Llanfaes 'A' who took the trophy back to their school. 'The Sprit of the Day Award' went to Cradoc School. As the tournament was finishing the pupils had a surprise with Wales and British Lions No.8 Andy Powell arriving to present the trophies and goodies from the Cardiff Blues to each player.
