The airline, which currently flies to eleven European destinations from Cardiff International Airport, will be supporting rugby in Wales by sponsoring the Cardiff Blues, who will compete against the best Scottish, Irish and Welsh opposition in the newly expanded Celtic League and Celtic Cup, as well as the cream of European rugby in the Heineken Cup. The sponsorship will also encompass Cardiff RFC who will continue to face their traditional opponents, such as Llanelli, Pontypridd, Swansea and Newport in a 16 team Welsh Premiership.
Tony Davis, managing director, bmibaby, said:
"We're delighted once again to announce our support of rugby in Wales.
The association worked extremely well for us last year and we're proud to be involved with Cardiff this season and support them as they enter into a new era of rugby in Wales."
This year the airline will also sponsor the "bmibaby challenge trophy," which will see the Cardiff Blues and the Leicester Tigers battle it out at the Cardiff Arms Park on 22 August 2003.
The commercial partnership will see the bmibaby.com logo on the collar and on the front of the first team jersey of both the Cardiff Blues Regional team and the Cardiff Rugby team, which will be worn for every match. The deal will also see the north stand at the Cardiff Arms Park again named "the bmibaby stand."
