Following three match inspections the match went ahead and early on in the mud bath, the Blues managed to turnover the Scarlets and the forwards drove on.

Slippery conditions meant it was never going to be a free flowing game but Nick Robinson did well to gather a kick upfield and clear. Eight minutes in the Blues were penalised for holding on in a ruck and the Scarlets opted to kick for the posts. However the kick just drifted wide.

Nicky Robinson put in a huge up 'n under and chased it which lead to Blues scrum in the Scarlets half. The Blues were then awarded a penalty that Mike Phillips took quickly, however he was obstructed and Blair stepped up to kick the first points of the match.

Phillips looked lively with tap and go penalties and despite the conditions Nicky Robinson also showed slick hands. Dafydd Jones was awarded a yellow card in the 15th minute for constantly coming in from the side and the Blues tried to build on their man advantage. However, the ball was like a bar of soap which meant that neither side were able to play any free flowing rugby.

An excellent run by the Blues saw Nick Robinson break from his own half, he threw a few dummies that fooled the defence and despite having Czekaj outside him chipped over Garan Evans at full back. A foot race to the try line followed and saw Robinson and Czekaj obstructed by Ceiron Thomas. Despite Czekaj scoring the referee awarded a penalty try that Blair converted and awarded a yellow card to Thomas.

Within minutes the Blues had turned over the Scarlets in the home side's twenty two. Nicky Robinson broke again and passed to Stcherbina to Jamie Robinson. He held on to the ball and drew the defenders before finally passing to Tom James. The young winger once again showed his class and sped inside Garan Evans to score under the posts. Blair once again converted to bring the score to 17-0 after 33 minutes. The end of the half saw the Scarlets try to play and pushed the Blues back to their own twenty two but solid defence kept them out once again.

CARDIFF BLUES 17 LLANELLI SCARLETS 0

The Scarlets started the second half quite lively with Regan King passing the ball out wide and they were eventually awarded a penalty that Ceiron Thomas converted to give them the first score of the match.

The Blues responded well and Ben Blair was held back when he attacked and Robinson kicked the penalty to the corner. They won the line out but were awarded a scrum from the ruck. Rush picked up at the back and excellent driving from Rush, Morgan and Mike Phillips saw Morgan being driven over for the third try of the evening. Blair kept up his 100% record with the conversion.

Bradley Davies did well to steal a line out ball when the Blues were under pressure in their own twenty two and eventually the Blues cleared with a huge kick up-field. The Scarlets however maintained the pressure in the Blues half with Czekaj being kept busy clearing up. They were eventually awarded a penalty five metres out and Duane Peel took it quickly and passed out to Regan King who spilled the ball crossing the line. The Scarlets kept at it and drove towards the Blues line. Eventually Scott Morgan was given a yellow card. With the man advantage the Scarlets chose the scrum and drove forward. The Blues scrum wheeled and the referee awarded a penalty try.

The score woke the Blues and instantly they found themselves in the Scarlets twenty two. Good work by Mike Phillips saw them drive forward and when the ball came out Nicky Robinson threw a long pass out to Czekaj who sped over on the left to score. Blair was unlucky with the conversion hitting the post, but the important thing was the Blues had secured the win and the bonus point that took them to fourth in the league.
