Players back Arms Park return

10th May 2012

Cardiff Blues Fullback Leigh Halfpenny is delighted with the decision to return to the Arms Park next season.

Speaking at the iconic ground, Halfpenny said:

“I think it’s the right option for us as players, we love playing at the Arms Park and feel more at home here.”

“At the Arms Park the supporters are so close to the pitch that you can feel the atmosphere and there is no better feeling than running out to a packed ground.”

“I feel that being at the Arms Park gives us a true home advantage as it’s so intimidating for the opposition.”

“They have a smaller changing room and things like that as well.”

“I know that when we have been to away matches and when we have had small changing rooms, we knew we were off to a bad start.”

“Then they have to run out on to the pitch and feel the atmosphere, it’s very intimidating, but great for us as the home team.”

“I think that feeling of home advantage was something we lacked at the City Stadium.”

“For me as a kicker, it’s great to know that I can come here anytime to learn the pitch inside out and really know everything about it, giving me further advantage.”

With Cardiff Blues having announced the prices of their 2012/13 season tickets, starting from £140 for a terrace ticket for a minimum of 16 matches, Halfpenny hopes the fans will back the decision and come to watch the matches.

Current season ticket holders will have first choice on season tickets for the forthcoming season and will receive direct communication during the next two weeks. Season tickets will go on sale to current season ticket holders on Monday 21 May and on general sale on Monday 28 May.

“I know a lot of fans that have said they would like to go back to the Arms Park and hopefully we will win them back with this decision.”

“Being at the Arms Park really makes a difference to us as players.”

“I was here for the Ulster game, in the crowd, and it gave me goose-bumps just being there and listening to the crowd as the boys ran out, the atmosphere was really intense.”

“It’s also fantastic for the supporters they are so close to the action.”

“That’s the great thing about rugby that people can come enjoy and be entertained.”

"I think it’s a sensible move and I think everyone will be happy.”

The Blues will hold number of open evenings at the Arms Park over the summer months giving current season ticket holders, sponsors and official partners the chance to talk about the plans for the ground as well as giving the Blues the chance promote the packages that will be available.
