In the morning rounds they emerged victorious, with splendid wins over Aberavon by 17 points to 5, and over Bridgend by 40 points to nil, playing magnificent sevens rugby despite the fact that their preparation was limited to one training session because of their involvement in the Morgan Griffiths Cup Final.

In the afternoon pool of the main competition the Cynon team faced stern opposition from Pembrokeshire, Pontypridd and Cardiff Schools. In the match against Pembrokeshire, both sides played exceptional sevens rugby but the score was stuck at nil all until a kick bounced fortunately into the hands of a Pembrokeshire player who raced 50 yards for a well taken try. Not to be deterred, the Cynon boys took on Pontypridd in the next game and emerged victorious by 33 points to 7. In the meantime Cardiff had beaten Pembrokeshire, and a win against Cardiff would get Cynon into the Final if they won by 2 clear tries. The boys rose to the occasion magnificently and produced stunning ruby to win by 17 points to 7. Sadly, in the Final, the Cynon side had to give best to Swansea Valley.

Throughout the tournament the coaches made expert use of the whole squad with every member contributing in large measure to the team's success. Outstanding contributions came from Sam Campbell, Joseff Griffin, Thomas Young, David Barry and Ben Jones, while not far behind them particularly telling contributions were made by Owen Williams, Jordan Howells, Josh Lewis, Jack Howe, James Williams, Chris Davies, Lloyd Thomas and Ieuan Archer in the team's outstanding defence and potent attacking play. The whole squad produced sevens rugby of the highest standard throughout the tournament, and all are to be complimented. Mention has to be made of the astute and telling coaching of Richard Sheppard and Steffan Williams in the production of such a memorable display by the Cynon boys.
