Although an early season fixture Pontypridd were keen to avenge their semi final defeat to Cardiff in the cup semi final last season. Both sides started well, displaying a clear intent to run the ball at every opportunity. It was the Cardiff pack who gained the upper hand in the early exchanges and following a passage of driving play and slick passing, Joel Croker (Baden Powell) ran in a try from the 22 metre line. Continued pressure by the Pontypridd side saw them cross the line in the second half, but a last ditch tackle by Teri Morgan Gee (Rumney) and Liam Free (Glyncoed) saw the ball dropped. Another try saving tackle came from Connor Martin (St. Johns College). The Pontypridd centre put his winger into space and he looked to be home and dry. Martin turned, covered a full 30 metres and caught his opposite number, pulling him into touch.

The Cardiff side, and extremely vocal crowd, were lifted and the emphasis of the game shifted, now seeing the Cardiff forwards get their second breath. From a lineout, Sam Brinkley (Llanishen Fach) stole the ball, and although he had plenty of support, he needed no second invitation find the try line.

Kai Laferla (Albany), Elliot Rees (Coryton), Tom Hayward (Radyr) and Michael Thomas (Llanishen Fach) all had fine games, but it was the back row of Cameron James (Rumney), Sydney Blackmore (Llandaff) and William Brinkley (Cathedral) that once again proved the difference between the sides with an inspirational display of defensive work.

Confidence was high and the Cardiff team looked to follow their impressive performance last week with another win.

From the kick off the Cardiff side took control with a series of carry and drives. William Haines (Cathedral) captained the side and led from the front. His pack were outstanding in providing a plentiful supply of clean ball for their backs.

The handling in the backs was precise, seeing each player show their superiority in wave after wave of attack. The ever present back row of Elliot Coleman (St. Phillip Evans), Lloyd Hopkin (Llanishen Fach) and the excellent Hugo Suoto (Christ The King) ensured they were first to every breakdown and responsible for a huge amount of turnover ball. Although the Pontypridd hooker continued to try and raise his sides game, the Pontypridd side were outgunned in every department.

Cardiff tries came from Callum Bricknell (Herbert Thompson), Lloyd Hopkin (Llanishen Fach) and Sam Scanlon (Cregiau). The pick of the bunch was a hatrick of tries from the extremely impressive scrum half Megan Jones (Mynydd Bychan). On this occasion everything she touched turned to gold. Besides her superb credentials as a player, Megan is fast becoming a confident leader and throughout the game, she ensured her players were well motivated and on the front foot.

Another excellent team performance displaying the quality and strength in depth of the Cardiff squad.
