Thousands of people are expected to take up the challenge to help create a better future for children by joining one of the many bike rides being staged across the country, or by organising their own ride over the weekend of 27 - 29 June 2008.

Big Bike Ride supporter Jamie said: "I have great memories of going on long bike rides with my family when I was younger and I still go out for rides now as part of my training for the Blues. The Big Bike Ride is a great opportunity for all the family to get out on their bikes and a have a fun day out together."

Linda McCarthy, NSPCC divisional fundraising manager said: "By taking part in the NSPCC Big Bike Ride you will have a great opportunity to have fun, keep fit and at the same time help the NSPCC carry out the vital work it undertakes providing local services for children and families."

"Whether you cycle around your local park, on a static bike at the gym or on a motorbike, individuals and organisations really can play their part in ending cruelty to children. Funds raised really will make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people".

On Saturday 26 July, the NSPCC will be staging the Cardiff Big Bike Ride, a nationally organized event. Starting in Bute Park, riders will be able to ride one of three routes out of the city into the countryside. There will be free entertainment, drinks and food at the start of the event and each participant will receive a medal on completion of their ride.

Jamie said: "I'll be taking part in the Cardiff Big Bike Ride, so why not register and join in the fun. It's sure to be a fantastic day out for all the family."
