Jones set to his a century of Cardiff Blues appearances

19th January 2019

Congratulations to Cardiff Blues scrum-half, Lewis Jones, who is set to make his 100th appearance for the region.

The former Wales under-20 international made his debut for the region in an Anglo-Welsh Cup clash against Ospreys in 2011, and has crossed for seven tries in his 99 appearances to date.

The former Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen pupil, who became the youngest player to hit 50 appearances for Wales’ Capital Region in 2013, is delighted to hit a century of appearances and is relishing the fight for the number nine jersey at the Arms Park.

Jones said: “I’m really proud of the achievement, and it’s been a long and enjoyable journey here at Cardiff Blues.

“I had hoped to hit the 100 a little bit earlier, to be honest, but suffered a significant knee injury two years ago, so it’s taken a little bit longer than anticipated.

“I can’t wait to get out there, and as always I’ll look to enjoy the occasion, because it will be extra special to reach the 100 at the Arms Park.

“Despite not being regularly involved in the matches, last season will always stand out as we had a fantastic group of boys and of course managed to lift silverware at the end of the campaign.

“Looking back at my time here, I’ve loved coming up against some big teams like Toulon and more recently, Saracens. I grew up watching the Heineken Cup, so to be involved in that competition has been amazing.

“I’ve been fortunate to play against some of the best players in the world, alongside really good team-mates, who have become friends as well.

“There is certainly a challenge for the jersey here, but I relish the competition, and that fight drives all four of us on.

“Lloyd and Tomos are internationals, of course, while Dane is a promising player, but the competition is healthy and we all get along very well both on and off the training pitch.”
