Cardiff Blues travelled to Worcester for their opening friendly fixture of the season as they looked to build on their pre-season training.
The Blues started well attacking and gaining territory into the Worcester half, however, it was the home side that got the first score through a Mieres penalty.
The Blues struck back soon after following a period of pressure in the Worcester twenty two that eventually saw them find a gap on the left hand side with Macauley Cook able to squeeze over in the corner. Worcester equalled from the kick off after turning over the ball and Matavesi found acres of space to run in. Mieres hooked the conversion wide.
The Blues were dealt a blow when Filo Paulo was shown a yellow when he leapt for the ball from the kick off and collided with a Worcester jumper. The Warriors capitalised with the man advantage in the scrum, winning a penalty that Mieres slotted.
Mieres and Gareth Davies exchanged penalties before Davies slotted another to bring the score to 14-11 at the break.

It was all change for the Blues, bringing on 12 new players with only Harry Robinson, Tom Williams and Filo Paulo remaining from the first half team. Patchell soon got some points for the Blues with a straightforward penalty in front of the posts to bring the scores level, but it was a match that lacked any spark or competitive edge, which was understandable in preseason friendly.
Worcester nearly got a break away try when Ben Howard broke down the left following a turnover but Patchell this time showed great pace to track back and put in the tackle just on the twenty two before Worcester were penalised.
The Blues then took the lead for the first time when Harry Robinson intercepted a stray Worcester pass then fed Richard Smith. The Wales Sevens player had an easy run in with Patchell converting under the posts.
Patchell missed a 60 yard effort in what was turning into a scrappy affair but the Blues kept pressure on the Warriors. The young fly half had a chance to secure the game but missed a relatively easy attempt late only but the Blues had done enough to secure the win.
