Josh Turnbull signs new Cardiff Blues contract

12th October 2017

Josh Turnbull has committed his future to Cardiff Blues by signing a new long-term contract with the region.

The versatile forward’s current deal was due to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season but he has put pen to paper to stretch his stay at Cardiff Arms Park beyond four years.

Turnbull admits it was an easy decision for him to make and he is enthused by the talent coming through the ranks at Wales’ Capital Region.

He said: “I’m really happy to agree a new deal and it was an easy decision for me to make.

“I’ve been here for four years, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and I’m looking forward to being part of something which will only grow and get better.

“There are a lot of young guys coming through and I feel we can really build something. I’m looking forward to playing my part and want to play week in, week out. I’m very optimistic about the future at Cardiff Blues.”

The Wales international joined Cardiff Blues from the Scarlets in 2014, and has so far made 70 appearances for the region.

Turnbull was one of a host of players who are out of contract at the end of the season but significant progress is being made on several fronts with further announcements expected in the coming days.

Cardiff Blues chief executive Richard Holland said: “It is great that Josh has decided to commit himself to Cardiff Blues and we hope to make a number of other announcements in the coming days.

“It has been widely reported that we have a number of players out of contract at the end of the season but we are making very good progress. We’re confident that Josh will be the first of several key players to sign new deals.”

Turnbull returns to the Cardiff Blues line-up tomorrow as they host Lyon in the opening round of the European Challenge Cup. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by clicking here or calling 029 20 302030.
