Williams pleased with attacking edge

19th September 2016

Lloyd Williams has praised his side's attacking threat, as the Cardiff Blues maintained their winning start to the season following a 23-19 victory over Glasgow Warriors.

Scrum-half Williams made his first start of the season during Saturday’s win over the 2014-15 Guinness PRO12 champions.

He insists the Cardiff Blues’ style of attack can cause problems to opposition defences, having scored nine tries in three games.

“When we attack well, which we have done so far this season and over the past 12 months, we’re a tough team to defend against,” said Williams.

“The way we played our game is where we want to be – playing an attractive style of rugby. We enjoy playing like that and hopefully the crowd enjoy it.”

Wales’ Capital Region got off to a flying start on Saturday, with Alex Cuthbert crossing after 23 minutes, before Rey Lee-Lo touched down for a vital try at the end of the first half. Replacement Steve Shingler sealed the win with a late penalty.

Williams reckons his side now has installed the confidence to close out tight games.

He continued: “From the tail-end of last season, we really came together and believed we could go out and beat anyone. Last year we came alive in the last 20 minutes because we knew if we had a team against the ropes after 60 minutes, we’ve got a chance.”

But Williams insists the team’s focus now turns to Saturday’s away clash against Zebre, which has proven to be a tough test in past seasons.

The scrum-half added: “It is a nice place to be, but it’s still early days. We’re three games down in what is a very long season.

“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We haven’t won out in Zebre for three years, so next week is a big week for us. We really want a result out there.”
