Cardiff Blues was today saddened to hear the news that Cardiff RFC legend and former captain John Hickey has passed away.
John joined the club in 1963/63 after playing with Llandaff Youth and the Cardiff & District side Canton. He was a back row forward of much aggression.
He played a total of 218 games over 12 seasons with the club up until the 1974/75 campaign, scoring 17 tries. John was club captain in 1970/71.
He also played in four 7s games for the club as well as playing for Crawshays XV and East Wales. He was the brother of Dennis Hickey who also played for Cardiff.
John will be sadly missed by all and our thoughts go out to his family at this sad time.
