Boss prepares for Italian Job next up

18th October 2014

Boss Mark Hammett looked ahead with optimism to the next European test after Grenoble were pushed aside at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park - and warned against any complacency against a 'passionate' Femi-CZ VEA Rugby Rovigo next weekend.

Cardiff Blues opened Pool 1 in style as they ran in five tries to secure a bonus point win over the Top14 side.

Next up is the Italian job with Rovigo away next weekend and Hammer is only to aware of the reception likely to be awaiting the Blues.

“We’ve had a good look at them and they will be passionate and into the game,” he said.

“They are quite forward dominated, although they have some X-factor players in places. The seven and wingers are sharp. They are big men with a tall lineout, so we are aware of what to expect.

“We’ve been looking at these two games together and I am likely to make some changes for Rovigo next week with managing the squad, getting the win and giving opportunities to those that have put their hands up in recent weeks.

“We will enjoy this win over Grenoble,” he added. “This is a long-term plan and one win doesn’t mean we are there.

“I am stoked for the lads, they are working very hard. It can be demoralising when you are working hard and if we had got a couple of areas right we could have had a few more wins. But that is where we are and we have just got to get on with it.”
