Cardiff Blues 7s captain Richard Smith says his side want to make Wales proud when they run out to face the might of England's top-flight at Twickenham Stoop for the Premiership Rugby 7s Series Finals.
Blues topped the first-ever Welsh leg of the tournament at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park with 12 points, one point ahead of Newport Gwent Dragons who will also join them at the Finals on August 8.
The two teams drew 19-19 in their final group game, with the Blues scoring two tries in the final 90 seconds to level the scores, and Smith believed the comeback showed the never say die attitude that has developed at the region.
"The way that the final game finished at the end it hasn't quite sunk in that we're group winners. The Dragons put up a great fight against us and to be honest I thought we'd lost it," the 26-year-old said.
"We can't wait to get to the Stoop and we just want to put in a good performance now against the big English clubs.
"Playing against the English sides will make the occasion even more special. You want to go and do your region proud but at the same time we will be representing Wales alongside the Dragons so we want to put in a good performance and do the country proud as well."
The Blues journey to the final got off to a slow start as they found themselves 14-0 down inside two minutes against the Ospreys but tries from Aled Summerhill, Dan Fish, Tomos Williams, Ellis Wyn Benham and Owen Jenkins saw them fight back to win 33-21 and secure a crucial bonus point.
They picked up from where they left off in their second game against Scarlets with Fish, Tom Williams, Smith and Ben Roach all crossing in a 22-7 victory before their final comeback.
The Blues were missing Adam Thomas, Jevon Groves and Gareth Davies due to their involvement in the Commonwealth Games with the Wales 7s squad and Smith believes coach Richard Hodges will have some tough decisions to make come Finals day given the performances of their replacements.
"Tournaments like this are great opportunities for the younger boys to get a run out and show what they can do," Smith added.
"Some of these boys had never played in the senior Blues jersey before and they really put their hands up. The coaches are now going to have some really tough decisions to make for the finals and throughout the season and I'm just glad I'm not having to make them.
"There will be a full house at the Stoop and it will be a great experience for all the boys but in particular the younger players. I think the more exposure they have to big crowds and playing in the jersey then when it comes to big games you know you've been there and done it and can perform at your best."
