>OFFICIAL CHARITY - WOODEN SPOON
WOODEN SPOON IS THE CHARITY OF BRITISH AND IRISH RUGBY AS WELL AS THE OFFICIAL CHARITY OF CARDIFF BLUES.
Wooden Spoon funds a whole range of projects designed to improve life for people throughout the UK and Ireland.
Wooden Spoon supports mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children and young people, committing to over £13 million in spending for projects. It has organised over 2,000 events and had over 25,000 of its famous ties worn by its loyal members and supporters. Over the years, its social and sporting events across the country have raised millions of pounds that have changed thousands of lives.
Wooden Spoon is a national charity but one working very much at a local level where all funds raised locally are spent locally. Spoon supports work that addresses a wide range of social problems as well as physical illnesses and disabilities ranging from cancer, cystic fibrosis and autism.
There is a collective ambition to see Wooden Spoon continue to grow in stature and thereby continue to have a positive impact on disadvantaged children and young people throughout the UK. Spoon now consistently raises over £1.5m each year for distribution to local and national projects. With each passing year the aim is to continue to raise the bar higher and help more children with physical, mental and social challenges.
Spoon Wales has been working as a region since 1986 and of the £13 million spent on projects to date by Spoon, nearly a million pounds has been spent in Wales.
