Young people at the project have also been busy with several other schemes based around healthier lifestyles including creating adventure play opportunities, allotments and doing woodland walks.
Speaking at the event Martyn Williams said, "Valleys Kids is a great organisation that helps thousands of youngsters in the South Wales area. The Cardiff Blues have a close link with them through Development Officers, Chris Jones and Ben Daniels, helping with rugby coaching in the local schools."
"I'm delighted to be invited down to see the superb work being done and the new ilan outdoor gym will be of huge benefit to the Rhydyfelin community," added Martyn.
These initiatives have been made possible with the support of the Communities First and Big Lottery Way of Life funding, which is helping local charity, Valleys Kids to target children under 12 and encourage them to have more active lifestyles. Crucial funding from GwirVol and the Countryside Council of Wales have enabled Valleys Kids to develop a wide range of outdoor opportunities. So, despite the weather, young people have become Eco-Warriors - tackling such things as land clearance and tree carving, enabling them to feel a sense of ownership within their community helping to provide long-term benefits and enhance community and family outdoor activities.
Valleys Kids works in partnership with Rhydyfelin Communities First and Newydd Housing and would like to thank them for their support in helping to promote and celebrate healthier living and healthier lifestyles for children, young people and adults in the Rhydyfelin area.
